Snoring & Sleep Apnea Solutions in South Bay, California
Snoring occurs when the soft tissue structures of palate collapse into the upper airway and vibrate as we breathe air through them. This vibration of the soft tissue produces the sound we know as snoring. Large tonsils, a long soft palate, a large tongue, the uvula, and excess fat deposits in the throat all contribute to airway narrowing and snoring. Usually, the more narrow the airway space, the louder or more habitual the snoring.
Snoring can be completely eliminated or greatly reduced by wearing an oral appliance at night. This special anti-snoring oral appliance is a custom-made device that fit over teeth and advances the lower jaw forward and creates more airway space. However, in many cases, snoring is a symptom of a life-threatening sleep disorder called Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Therefore, it is very important to see a health-care professional to rule out any sleep disorder prior to making an anti-snoring appliance.
